The old saying, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” may work for some things, but for air conditioning units, it certainly shouldn’t be your go-to moto. Some signs that you need to replace your AC unit may be obvious, but other indications could slip by unnoticed, unless you know better.

With summer quickly approaching, having a working AC unit is more important than ever to keep you and your family cool and healthy. Read through our AC check-up list to see if you may need to consider replacing your AC unit before the heat wave hits.

1. Does the temperature change throughout your house?

When some rooms are much hotter than others, it could be a sign of leaking or improperly designed ducts, or poorly installed air conditioning ducts. There may also be a bigger issue at work, and your AC system could be malfunctioning.

2. Is your system noisy?

Newer AC units are quite stealthy, so if your system is overly loud it’s quite possible the noise is an indication of a bigger problem, not just an inconvenience. The noise may be an indication of an incorrectly oversized duct system, or there may be an issue with the indoor coil of your air conditioner.

3. Does your air conditioning system running non-stop?

While you may think your AC is just working overtime to fight the heat, it could be a sign of a leak. If your system is leaking refrigerant, it may not be visible to you, so trust a trained AC repair service to check your system for you.

4. Have you noticed your home feels more humid?

Leaks in the ductwork or malfunctioning equipment may cause the air conditioning system to malfunction, leading to a humid feel inside your home.
